Waste
water treatment with Ozone
Artificial Ozone production for waste water treatment
Decades
ago, scientists discovered how to artificially produce ozone through
electrical discharge. The method has been used in Europe for waste water
treatment since 1904 and has been rapidly gaining popularity in municipal
water plants in the United States. In the 1970s, an inexpensive and
reliable method
of making
ozone was discovered utilizing a specific wave of UV light. Ozone generated
from UV light is just as effective as ozone produced from electrical
discharge or naturally occurring ozone. This production method is preferred
for many
applications based on cost, reliability, maintenance and quantity. When
producing ozone for waste water treatment it is important to use the
appropriate ozone equipment including tools for ozone measurement.
Using ozone for waste water treatment
The use of ozone in industrial waste water treatment processes has increased
significantly in recent years. Ozone is an extremely powerful oxidant, yet
it does not harm the environment or leave behind toxic by-products. Process
ozone levels must be accurately monitored in a waste water treatment environment
in order to ensure reliable and efficient process control. In addition, since
ozone is toxic above certain concentration levels, worker exposure to ambient
ozone must be carefully monitored in order to meet OSHA/TLV requirements.
IN USA is a recognized world leader in the design and manufacture of ozone
instrumentation for industrial waste water treatment applications. Over the
years, we have developed considerable expertise in a wide variety of applications
for ozone measurement and control. Following is a brief listing of some of
the more common ozone measurement applications.
- Waste water treatment
- Beverage bottling
- Water Purification
- Ultrapure water
- Drinking water treatment
- Water remediation
- Food processing and storage
- Biotechnology processes
- Fish farming
- Medical applications
IN USA manufactures instrumentation to measure ozone for waste water
treatment in both gas and liquid phases from ppb levels to concentrations
as high as
900 g/m3. Single-channel and multichannel models are available - all
models use the proven UV (ultraviolet) absorption technique to make the
measurement. UV absorption is an absolute ozone measurement, is selective
to ozone, and
provides
a fast, reliable and stable indication of ozone concentration.
